Residual magnetism and remanence are two key concepts closely associated with magnetism and magnetic materials.

Residual magnetism is the property of a material to remain magnetized after exposure to a magnetic field, even after the field is removed. This occurs because the material's magnetic domains can maintain their orientation even when the external magnetic field is absent. This property is useful in manufacturing permanent magnets and is essential for magnetic field measurement and analysis.

On the other hand, remanence is a measure of a material's magnetization after an external magnetic field is removed. It describes the remaining magnetic polarization of a material and is often measured in units such as gauss or tesla.

Remanence is a key factor in characterizing permanent magnets because it indicates how strong the magnet remains after being magnetized. This property is essential for magnetic field measurement and analysis, particularly in developing long-lasting permanent magnets for industrial applications.

Residual magnetism and remanence are important in magnetism research and the production of magnetic materials and devices. These two concepts are fundamental to magnetic field measurement and play a key role in various applications, ranging from electronics to medicine.

Measuring residual magnetism

Measure low remanence on steel parts before or after machining to meet your customers' specifications and ensure part cleanliness.

Measurement of fast pulsed magnetic fields with MP-4000

An outstanding feature is the fast digitized measured value processing with up to 200 kHz, which allows pulse curves from 0.1 msec to be displayed. This provides an accurate picture of the pulse curve of a magnetic field. Maximum value and pulse length are indicated exactly.

Axial or transverse magnetic field measurement

Axial probes measure in the direction of the probe plunger. Transverse probes measure at a 90° angle to the probe. Transverse probes are more suitable for measurements in cavities or narrow tubes. An advantage of the List-Magnetik axial probe is the 2 mm distance between the Hall sensor and the probe cap.

Note on how to use

Magnetic field meters from List-Magnetik are suitable for measuring direct and alternating magnetic fields up to a maximum of 20 kHz with a measuring range from a minimum of 0.01 mT (= 10 µT) to a maximum of 5 T. These are fields with a strength of at least the earth's magnetic field.
However, they are not suitable for measuring high-frequency electromagnetic fields in the sense of an EMC test or electric fields in the range of a few µT.
There are special EMC meters on the market for this purpose, which we do not sell.
